In layman\’s terms, a lucid dream is a dream you have where you are actually aware of the fact that you\’re busy having a dream. The term \’lucid\’ simply refers to being aware or conscious, and of course the full extent of your lucidity depends largely on your actual dream experience, together with the amount of detail you are able to remember when you wake up, and of course, the level of control you had over the dream.
It is this last point which is by all accounts the most astounding quality of a lucid dream, given that you are actually able to identify the fact that you\’re busy having a dream. Is it not remarkable that one can actually control the direction of your dream, and that you\’re not restricted in any way whatsoever?
Can you even for one minute imagine what it feels like, bearing in mind that it not only looks and sounds like reality, but it even feels like reality. Of course the big difference is, when you have a lucid dream you know that it\’s only a dream. Furthermore, you know that you cannot get injured and you know that you cannot die, so personal safety is not an issue. Of course, because there are no rules or regulations, you\’re basically free to do exactly as you choose. The bottom line is; lucid dreaming is like having your own personal world of \’virtual reality\’ with a quality far beyond anything else known to man.
It simply cannot be denied that lucid dreaming is a skill which can only be described as being fantastic. It\’s hardly surprising really that so many people are now longing to master the art of lucid dreaming. Interestingly enough, most people will have the occasional lucid dream but just imagine if you could experience one whenever you want.
Many people tend to describe a lucid dream as being a doorway or gateway to the most wonderful experiences imaginable. In fact when you have a lucid dream and you\’re able to control it, you can then head off to any place you wish, whether you choose to go and meet your favorite celebrities, or whether you choose to go and visit loved ones which are no longer here with you. The amazing thing is you are only limited by your own imagination.
Unfortunately though, being able to experience lucid dreams on a regular basis is not always very easy. Until recently, the vast majority of people wanting to experience lucid dreaming would dedicate months and months in order to receive suitable training and self conditioning. Admittedly, many of these people did eventually manage to have lucid dreams but for the most part they were very brief experiences, while many people on the other hand never achieved any level of success at all.
Are there any quick and easy ways to experience a lucid dream?
Interestingly enough, there are many people who believe certain foods such as orange juice, cheese, milk, and mustard, have the ability to help induce a lucid dream, providing they are consumed immediately before you lie down to sleep.
Fish, pickles, popcorn, and ice cream have also been mentioned. Even though these foods don\’t seem to compare with those mentioned above, many people do claim that these help to improve dream recall. Unfortunately for many people who may be on a diet, all the foods just mentioned contain a lot of sugar, salt, and fat, none of which are known to promote a good night\’s sleep.
Can technology help people to experience lucid dreaming?
As time moves on, so too does technology so it comes as little surprise that technology can nowadays assist people with regards to lucidity. In fact, technology can now be used in order to both stimulate and induce lucid dreams. Various devices which come in the form of masks and eyeshades can now detect REM in a person and when they do, they then begin to blink a red beam of light. By integrating this beam of light with the dream, it is hoped that the beam of light will serve to remind the subject that they are dreaming, thus providing them with an opportunity to try and control the direction of the dream.
In addition to the devices mentioned above, there have also been some marvelous developments in sound technology which by all accounts have quite literally opened the doors to the world of lucid dreaming. Scientists have developed a process known as binaural beats which utilize sound waves of different frequencies played into each ear.
The aim of this process is to synchronize the two hemispheres of the brain and in so doing, induce REM. In fact, when one listens to these sounds, the REM state of sleep is almost instantaneous and of course, this is the type of sleep required in order to experience a lucid dream.
While everyone has their own preferences, this new process which uses binaural beats is by far the easiest and most reliable way for anyone to get started.
